Why Choose Ponus Ridge

Why Choose Ponus Ridge STEAM Academy?

At Ponus Ridge, students don’t just learn about the world—they engage with it, shape it, and reimagine what’s possible. Our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) curriculum empowers students to become the problem-solvers, innovators, and changemakers of tomorrow.
Through hands-on learning experiences, students at Ponus Ridge explore real-world challenges, collaborate with peers, and present their ideas to authentic audiences – from city officials to local business leaders.

Project-Based Learning That Connects Learning To Life

Every student at Ponus Ridge participates in Project-Based Learning (PBL) – a dynamic approach that brings academic concepts to life by connecting them to meaningful, real-world problems.

Whether they’re designing smart products, solving environmental issues, or pitching new inventions, our students learn by doing. Our approach blends science, math, technology, engineering, the arts, and writing to make learning engaging, purposeful, and fun.

Take our chemical reactions unit, for example: students create bath bombs in science class, then write and produce video commercials to market them. It’s a project that builds scientific understanding while strengthening communication, creativity, and media literacy.

Throughout the year, students also take part in STEAM-focused experiences that deepen their learning, including:

Spring STEAM Unit – A seven-day, Shark Tank–style event where students research real-world problems, prototype solutions, and present their ideas to panels of local leaders, including the mayor and business professionals.

STEAM Days – Schoolwide, themed design challenges – like engineering and building greenhouse prototypes – that promote teamwork and innovation.

After-School STEAM Clubs – Opportunities to explore robotics (SeaPerch and VEX), podcasting, eSports, rock band, and more.

Cutting-Edge Tools & Technology

At Ponus Ridge, students are immersed in a tech-rich environment that prepares them for a future fueled by innovation.

From 3D printing and digital product design to robotics and immersive media, students use professional-grade tools to bring their ideas to life. Our Verizon-sponsored immersive media lab, student-run broadcasting studio, and music tech lab give students creative outlets to explore and grow.

Starting in Fall 2025, every 6th grader will take an Introduction to Coding course, with additional tech electives expanding in 7th and 8th grade, including robotics, digital product innovation, and music technology.

Creativity Meets Critical Thinking

We believe that creativity and analytical thinking go hand-in-hand. Through design thinking, collaborative teamwork, and regular opportunities for feedback and revision, students learn to embrace challenges, take risks, and reflect on their growth.
Whether building a prototype, writing a story, or coding a solution, students develop both the confidence and the resilience to keep going – and keep growing.
